How to help your child love and excel in Maths?

1) Be a role model :  

As a mother or father, you have to become a role model for your child and help solve the difficulty your child is facing in Maths.  Mother can teach Maths using the resources in the Kitchen and the house.  Mother can help the child learn counting all the items in the kitchen.  Father can teach Math topics like percentage, fraction, interest, loan, installment - all topics related to business maths and basic geometry.

2) Keep it fun:

Parents can add fun elements in Math.  They can play with their children and while playing games, they can teach them math.  One simple example is to play cricket and tell the child to score the runs.  If you hit fours, sixes and take single runs, the child will write it on a piece of paper and then the child has to find the total score.  This requires multiplication and addition.  

3) Relate math to real life:

Whenever possible, please try to relate math to real life examples.  If you are going to a restaurant to have pizzas, show your child how many pieces are cut from one pizza and then you can explain the whole and the part (fractions) numbers.  If you take your child for a ride, show the child various geometrical shapes on the street and explain their names and properties.

4) Practice, Practice and Practice :

Be with your child and help the child do the math again and again and again till your child understands the logic.

5) Take MATH Help:

If you are not able to dedicate time for your child, please seek professional help.  You need some one who can make your child feel at home and teach MATH conceptually.
